Brookfield Museum Hosts Talk on Operation Downfall
The talk, Monday July 9th at 7:30, will focus on Operation Downfall the Planned Allied Invasion of Japan During WWII

Robert Purssell of Brookfield, a retired engineer and writer, will conduct a multi-media presentation on Operation Downfall the name given to the planned invasion of Japan intended to end World War II in the Pacific. It will take place on Monday, July 9, 2018, at 7:30 P.M., in the Brookfield Museum located at 165 Whisconier Road (Intersection of Routes 25 and 133) in Brookfield Center.
In his presentation, Bob will examine the different scenarios put forth by the American military to invade Japan; Operation Downfall, the eventual American plan; and Operation Ketsu-go, the Japanese military’s response; and the preparations made by both sides. He then will discuss the American fear of terrible casualties and the Japanese civilian leadership’s growing disenchantment with its military’s planning. Finally, Bob will review Operation Downfall’s relationship to the atomic bombing of Japan.
Admission is free, and following the program, complimentary refreshments will be available. For more information on this and other planned events of the Brookfield Historical Society log onto www.brookfieldcthistory.org.
