A Brookfield Party Files Lawsuit to Block Caucus

New party members filed for a court order Tuesday to stop the caucus.

A third political party in Brookfield has filed a lawsuit that could prevent the group from holding their caucus Wednesday evening, the News Times reported.

Chairman Elect of A Brookfield Party Mark Ferry told The News Times that the case will go to on court Aug. 10. Ferry said the lawsuit was filed because a caucus wasn’t held when the party reached 50 members, a requirement in the original bylaws. The lawsuit was served on Tuesday.

A Brookfield Party is holding a town committee meeting Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Brookfield Town Hall to endorse candidates for November’s election.

Ferry said on A Brookfield Party’s Facebook page: “Please mobilize everyone and attend tonight at 6:30. Make them deny us access to the caucus illegally and the right to speak. Tape it. Bring cameras. The judge is moving for a hearing over the next week or two and we will amend the suit to vacate the actions of the caucus tonight.”

Ferry said that the party’s mission is “to improve transparency and educate voters.”
