Brookfield Police Brings Community Together for Toy Drive

The Brookfield Police Department collected hundreds of toys to be delivered Wednesday to the CT Children's Medical Center.

The Brookfield Police Department brought the community together on Saturday to collect hundreds of toys for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. The event was held in the TJ Maxx parking lot.

The newly formed Community Affairs Team of the Brookfield Police Department, made up of Officers Brian Flanagan, Joseph Kyek and Mitchell Heller, came up with the idea because they wanted to do something to help local children have a happy holiday, Heller said.

“This is our first launch of the Community Awareness Program and we wanted to get our name out there as a positive thing,” Kyek said.

The event was sponsored by KICKS 105.5, Raymour & Flanigan and Chick-fil-A Brookfield, who provided free chicken sandwiches to all who donated. Santa Cow made an appearance as well.

Detective Michael Zezza, Brookfield Police Officers, members of the Candlewood Fire Department and Police Chief Robin Montgomery were all on hand to help with donations. Chief Montgomery brought his dog Guinness and said he was very pleased with the community response. “This is amazing,” he said, talking about the two overstuffed police cruisers.

“The community support is incredible,” Officer Kyek said.

“We wanted to keep it local and that’s why we chose the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. We felt this is something we can do for the community to let people know there are good things going on,” Heller said.

“We plan on doing a lot more events like this,” Officer Flanagan said.
