BROOKFIELD, CT — If you're looking at a Brookfield police officer, you'd better smile. You're on camera.

The Brookfield Police Department is now equipped with the latest body-worn camera technology. All sworn police officers have completed their training with the 36 Axon Body 3 cameras, purchased in January.

"These cameras keep our agency in compliance and ahead of the state mandate that necessitates the utilization of in-car and body-worn video recording devices," BDP officials said in a statement released Tuesday.

The BPD has been using in-car dash camera technology in one form or another since the early 90s. All patrol vehicles have been outfitted with these systems since 2005.

"These camera systems may help deescalate situations and improve interactions between law enforcement and the community with the recording of a situation becomes known," officials said.
