Brookfield Police Investigate 'Huge Number' of Car Thefts in Recent Months, Chief Says: Report

The new chief says the number of stolen cars is a "huge number" for Brookfield.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Brookfield police have witnessed a spike in car thefts over the past several months, Police Chief James Purcell told the Daily Voice.

Purcell said that there have been seven instances of car thefts over the past three months, including one night where four cars were stolen. Purcell told the Daily Voice that the rash of car thefts was one of his main concerns as he assumes his role, and that the number of stolen cars was a "huge number" for Brookfield.

The department investigated four stolen cars in one night, according to Purcell, who also added that surrounding towns are seeing a similar increase.

Purcell also told the Daily Voice that residents should remove keys from vehicles and to never leave valuables in plain view.
