Brookfield Police Search For Missing Boater In Candlewood Lake

Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Candlewood Lake Monday for a missing boater.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Search and rescue efforts are ongoing in Candlewood Lake for a missing boater.

The Brookfield Police Department responded to the area near Candlewood Inn and Brookfield Bay around 7:30 Sunday evening, following a report of a boater who had jumped in the water and had not resurfaced.

The BPD dive team investigated two different areas where reports indicated the missing boater could be. Both endeavors came up empty, and the police began sweeps using sonar.

Brookfield police suspended their search operations suspended until 8 a.m. Monday, following inconclusive results. Connecticut State Police took over sonar operators after the local team left.

This is the second mishap at Candlewood Lake in the past week. On Thursday, a 76-year-old man who was working on his docked boat fell into the lake and drowned, according to police.
