Brookfield Residents to Discuss Proposed Town, School Budgets

The proposed budget represents a 5.6 percent increase over the current one.

BROOKFIELD, CT — The Board of Finance has proposed a 4.1 percent increase to spending and a 5.6 percent increase to the tax rate for the next fiscal year, and residents will get their chance to discuss the proposed $67.4 million budget at a town meeting Tuesday.

The budget breaks down as $24.4 million for the town (a 2.4 percent increase over the current year) and $43 million for the schools (a 4.9 percent increase over the current numbers).

The meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school auditorium. Residents will vote on whether to send the spending plans to a May 15 referendum.
