Brookfield U15 Baseball Moves to State Babe Ruth Finals
Brookfield sweeps state tourney en route to match up against Torrington Saturday night.
Brookfield's U15 baseball team won four consecutive games in the District 4 Tournament, including a 7-5 victory in the championship game this past Saturday against New Fairfield, to earn a berth in the 2012 Connecticut U15 Babe Ruth State Tournament.
In the first round, Brookfield defeated Bethel 3-0, powered by six shutout innings from Steven Almeida. Mike Farias tossed a 1-2-3 final inning for the save. Chase Esposito delivered the big hit in the game, a long, two-run double in the second inning. Rick Capossela, Tom Caravetta and Collin Porter each collected two hits in the victory.
Brookfield's second-round win came against defending champion and tournament host Ridgefield. Farias pitched six strong innings, striking out seven in the 7-2 victory. Porter and Matt Delia had two hits apiece.

In the third-round game against New Fairfield, Brookfield won 7-1 behind the pitching of Ryan Bingman, who gave up one run over six innings. Caravetta led the offense with three hits, followed by Porter and Capossela, with two each. Delia scored three runs.
New Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the championship game, the only time Brookfield fell behind in the tournament. Brookfield scored four runs in the second inning, and built a 7-3 lead going into the final inning. New Fairfield cut the lead to 7-5 in the seventh and had the bases loaded when Bingman, who was pitching, snared a liner to clinch the tournament.

Farias, Caravetta and Bingman each contributed two hits and an RBI, and Mike Gardner added a pinch-hit RBI single.
Defense was key for Brookfield in the tournament, with shortstop Cooper Yusko — 10 putouts and seven assists — catcher Caravetta and centerfielder Capossela leading the way.
