Brookfield Voters Approve Plan To Beef Up School Security

Brookfield residents have approved a plan to use American Rescue Plan Act​ funds to hire additional security personnel for the schools.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Residents have approved a plan to use federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to beef up security at Brookfield schools.

Slightly over 200 residents voted on two resolutions Monday evening.

Two school resource officers will be hired by the Brookfield Police Department at a cost of $251,515. The vote went 157 "yes" to 55 "no."

Residents also approved the second resolution, with a price tag of $344,718. It facilitates the police hiring one armed school security officer for after school hours at Brookfield High School. It also enables the Brookfield Public Schools to hire five additional unarmed security personnel for monitoring cameras, check-in at the front doors and patrolling the campus at each school. The resolution passed with 115 "yes" votes, and 98 "no" votes.
