Brookfield Voters Approve Town Budget, Reject School Spending Plan
Voters approved the $32 million municipal budget for 2023-24, but rejected the $51 million spending plan proposed by the Board of Education.
BROOKFIELD, CT — Voters approved the $32 million municipal budget for 2023-24, but rejected the $51 million spending plan proposed by the Board of Education.
The proposed $8 million capital budget for 2023-24 was also approved.
The unofficial vote count indicated the BOE budget failed 844 to 809, with 818 voters saying the spending plan was "too high." Another 527 voters said the budget was "adequate, and 284 voters said the schools budget was "too low." Residents approved the town budget 878-776.

The next budget referendum will be held May 30 according to Brookfield Town Clerk Andrea DiStephan.
