Join us at open auditions for Auntie Mame. We are seeking 20 actors for this classic play that thoughtfully explores themes of independence, unconventional family structures, and living life to the fullest.
This large, dynamic cast offers numerous opportunities for actors to shine. If you ever considered getting involved in community theater, this is a great opportunity!
Performances on June 25, 26, 27, July 10, 11, 17 and 18 @ 8pm. Matinees on June 28, July 5 and 12 @ 2pm.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
(10 Males / 10 Females)
1.Mame Dennis: (Female, 40s) An extravagant, bohemian socialite who refuses to be pigeonholed by convention. Mame is a whirlwind of intellectual curiosity, fashion-forward flair, and deep-seated warmth.
2.Young Patrick Dennis:
(Male,10-12) Mame’s nephew initially arrives as a polite, protected, and somewhat sheltered orphan. He quickly adapts to Mame’s whirlwind lifestyle, becoming her loyal co-pilot in her various eccentric adventures.
3.Adult Patrick Dennis: (Male, 20s-30s) After being sent to a traditional prep school he returns to Mame as a stuffed shirt—a conventional, judgmental, and somewhat priggish young man who is embarrassed by his aunt’s bohemian lifestyle.
4.Vera Charles: (Female, 40s) Vera is a famous stage actress and Mame’s best friend. She is a martini-loving diva who commands every room with a mix of genuine affection and biting, dry wit.
5.Ito: (Male, Asian, Any age) Mame’s loyal houseman. He is a constant, grounding presence in her life, serving as co-conspirator in all her hijinks.
6.Norah Muldoon: (Female, 40s) Traditional, fiercely protective Irish nanny who represents old-world values and serves as the initial voice of caution in Mame’s unconventional household.
7.Lindsay Woolsey: (Male, 30-40s) Distinguished, patient, and sophisticated book publisher who serves as a long-time suitor and a grounding intellectual force in Mame’s life.
8.Mr. Babcock: (Male, 30-40s) Stuffy, humorless, and ultra-conservative executor of the Dennis estate. He is tasked with ensuring Patrick is raised with traditional values.
9.Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside: (Male, 30-40s) A wealthy, charming Southern plantation owner who falls in love with Mame. Southern accent required.
10.Mother Burnside: (Female, 50s) Beauregard’s aristocratic, judgmental mother. Southern accent required. Ability to burp on cue a plus.
11.Sally Cato MacDougal: (Female, 20-30s) A Southern socialite rival engaged to Beauregard. Southern accent required.
12.Cousin Jeff (Male, Any age) A member of the Burnside clan. He represents the courtly, slow-moving, and deeply traditional Old South. Southern accent required.
13.Agnes Gooch: (Female, child-bearing age) Mame’s dowdy, repressed secretary who undergoes a dramatic transformation. Must wear pregnancy bump.
14.Gloria Upson: (Female, 20-30s) A snobby, suburban socialite whom adult Patrick considers marrying.
15.Mr. Claude Upson: (Male, 40s) Gloria’s father. A wealthy, ultra-conservative stuffed shirt. He is incredibly dull and takes immense pride in his restricted community.
16.Mrs. Doris Upson: (Female, 40s) Gloria’s mother. The fluttery, equally narrow-minded wife of Claude. She is obsessed with social standing and proper behavior.
17.Brian O’Bannion: (Male, 20-30s) A handsome, pretentious poet who mooches off Mame’s hospitality while helping her write her memoirs. Irish accent required.
18.Pegeen Ryan: (Female, 20-30s) A sensible, down-to-earth, and artistic young woman who works for Mame. She eventually becomes the romantic interest for Patrick.
19.Ralph Devine: (Male, 20-30s) An athletic, physically fit, and overly enthusiastic young man who populates Mame’s diverse social circle.
20.Miss Loomis: (Female, Any age) Store manager at Macy’s where Mame attempts to work as a saleswoman during the Great Depression.
