Devout Catholic, Mother, Wife Rose Lobraico, 84

Rose Angelina Lobraico, 84, of Brookfield, died on Friday, May 31 after a long battle with cancer and dementia. She was born in W. Newton, Mass. on May 22, 1929, the youngest of seven children of the late Domenico and Rose Caruso.

Rose was a graduate of Newton High School, and spent her early days in W. Newton where she worked as a bookkeeper for Tom Lyons Firestone. She would remain in her hometown until a fateful trip to Connecticut in her beloved Ford Thunderbird convertible where she would meet her future husband, Martin Joseph Lobraico, Sr. The two were married on April 26, 1965. They made their home in Danbury, where they raised their only son, Martin Jr.

Rose was a stay at home mother until she decided to open a business in her home, Ro-Mar Ceramics, which she would run for many years with the help of her husband and son. She would have many students through the years, some of them becoming lifelong friends.

After the death of her beloved husband in 1986, the business closed and Rose went to work for the Archdiocese of Bridgeport as the secretary for the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Danbury for approximately eight years. She then took a job with Quality Seals in Danbury and later would also work part time for Pope John Paul Health Center in Danbury, where she was recognized for her lengthy service of 20 years and only left due to illness.

Rose was very active with the Catholic Church. She was a devoted supporter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. After a friend's child was diagnosed with diabetes, she chose to begin what would become a lifelong partnership.

Rose will be missed by her son, Martin J. Lobraico, Jr. and his wife Darlene; her grandson, Dominick Lobraico; her sister Elinor Wemitt; four sisters-in-law, Theresa Bucko, Catherine Vetrano, Francis Hienkley and Maureen Lobraico as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rose was predeceased by her five siblings, Manny Caruso, Tony Caruso, Francis Gigliotti, Mary Germinaro and Pauline Germinaro, who have already made their journey home and are welcoming their little sister with open arms.
