BROOKFIELD, CT — A former Brookfield volunteer firefighter saved the life of a motorist he found trapped inside a burning car on Tuesday.

Jim Doktor, Jr., discovered a car on fire, with the driver trapped inside, shortly before 7:00 in the morning on Tuesday. Doktor smashed a window of the car and freed the driver. Assisted by two other bystanders, he was able to pull the seriously injured man further from the burning vehicle.

Current members of the Brookfield Volunteer Fire Company received a call about the fire at 6:42 a.m. on Tuesday, and arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire and arrange for the motorist's transport to Danbury Hospital.

"We are very proud of the actions of Jim and the other bystanders on Tuesday," the fire company posted to Facebook. "It is no surprise to us however because we have watched him grow up in the firehouse since he was a baby. His father is a past Chief of the BVFC and his uncle is a Lieutenant who both have 35 years of service. His aunt served many years as an EMT with the BVFC. He comes from a community minded, public service oriented family who has served Brookfield for decades."
