Founding Member of Brookfield Historical Society, Margaret Clara Drapeau, Passed Away

Mrs. Drapeau was also the President of the Republican Town Committee. Mrs. Drapeau passed away on Oct. 4, 2015.

Margaret Clara Drapeau of Brookfield died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, October 4, 2015. She was the wife of the late Arthur “Bud” Drapeau.

She was born in Aarau, Switzerland, a daughter of the late Rudolf and Olga (Daul) Scheck. Margaret lived an amazing life; she lived in Germany during her early childhood. She would vividly recall attending the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. As a child, she immigrated to America settling in New York. There she met her first husband, Joseph Otto Breitling. They moved to Brookfield to raise their family. She remained in Brookfield after Joseph’s untimely death. She became active in the Republican Town Committee and served as President. Margaret was a founding member of the Brookfield Historical Society. She was also a very active member of the Friends of the Brookfield Library.
A mutual friend introduced her to Bud Drapeau who became her second husband.

Mrs. Drapeau is survived by a son: Edmund Breitling, Sr. and his wife, Elaine, of Newtown; a daughter: Ingrid Wimmer and her husband, Robert, of Scottsdale, AZ; 7 grandchildren: Elisabeth Maurer, Edmund Breitling Jr., Ethan Breitling; Jessica Faria, Matthew Wimmer, Adam Wimmer, and Meredith Wimmer; 2 great grandsons: Nickolas and Max Faria; her niece Kim, and many cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Helen Eiden.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Brookfield Library, 182 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield, CT 06804.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 10:00 at St. Joseph Church, 163 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield. Cremation will follow. There were no calling hours.
