Garbage Train Derails Along A Section of Track in Brookfield

Officials are evaluating the damage, police said.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Cars on what Brookfield police are describing as a garbage train derailed along the freight tracks on Tuesday afternoon.

Police announced the accident just before 3 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The train was heading northbound on a straight section of track, police said.

The contents of the train cars appear to have remained inside the cars, police said. The train was carrying what appears to be garbage or construction debris, police said.

Police said they were told by railroad officials that no hazardous materials were on board.

Railroad officials are on scene evaluating the situation and determining how repairs will be made, police said.
