Longtime Brookfield resident George W. Lamperti, Sr., age 96, died Thursday, November 9 following a period of declining health. George was born on December 22, 1914 in New York City, the son of Anthony and Angelina Lamperti.
One of 13 children, he attended NYC schools where he excelled in basketball. He married Nicoletta Mussomeli in 1939. Their two sons were born in Stamford, where the family resided until their move to Brookfield in 1956.
George worked as a meat cutter at the Brookfield Market for many years and made many youngsters happy with a slice of bologna or cheese. Many Brookfield cooks improved their skills with his advice on cooking a particular cut of meat unfamiliar to them. He was also a bee keeper for over 20 years. He was known far and wide for being a great cook at the pig roasts and cookouts he and Nicky hosted over the years. He had a ready smile, a hearty laugh and an eagerness to be helpful to everyone.
