Gripping Discovery! 'Death Begins at 40'
The Urban Archeologist uncovers a safety booklet on driving from the 1937 Insurance capital of the US - Hartford, Connecticut

I am an advocate of safe driving. Every weekend I pile on the miles in search of interesting pieces of the past. I have seen my share of accidents and fortunately was never the cause of any.
I am not too proud to admit I need a reminder every now and then, and nothing provided that better than this 1937 publication from the Traveler’s Insurance company. “Death Begins at 40” is a wonderful eye-catching provocative title even today. The stunning cover is a masterpiece of graphic design.
Inside, there are over 20 pages of similar multi-color dipictions of everything you shouldn’t do behind the wheel. It provides a glimpse into the earlier days of driving when exceeding 40mph was extreme.
