Harry Potter in BHS Writing Center

BHS Writing Center Overhead Art Gallery

Back in the fall of 2016, BHS junior and Writing Center tutor, Emma Morton, expressed great interest in the overhead gallery in Room 208, aka the BHS Writing Center. Right away, this artistic student expressed her desire to be counted among those who have painted one of our ceiling tiles, depicting the cover art of classic books. The first task at hand: which title should she tackle? Color and design are just two considerations in this decision. An additional (quite challenging) element of this project is always that the ceiling tile itself has a surface that is hole-y and porous--full of imperfections. Some designs cooperate with this obstinate surface better than others.

Once her decision was made, Emma dedicated her spare time to this project, finishing just yesterday after several months. J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, will be the 11th addition to our unusual collection; Emma's completed work is very true to the original design. Her attention to shading and all the smallest details from the cover are truly amazing.

Thanks, Emma, for sharing your talent with us!
