A Holiday Message - Restored!

Urban Archeologist, Greg Van Antwerp, reveals the secret hiding behind a very old greeting.

If you’ve been reading my articles, or my blog, you know that part of the reason I hunt for weekend treasure is the hope that I will find something to restore. When I uncover something at a sale that’s unique, I have found it once. When I can restore and post it to the web, It’s like finding it a second time. This old engraving was exactly that.

Searching all year, it is not uncommon for me to find something in summer that is stored away until the time is right to share it. Earlier in 2014, I found a printer’s plate etched with a typical december holiday greeting.

Pictured above you can see the outline of a young lady grasping a wrapped gift outside a frosted window as snowflakes lightly fall around her. Upon closer inspection you would see a thousand scratches and aberrations all across the design.
