Joseph Gerard Murray, age 66, of Brookfield, died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday, December 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Kathleen Bresmon Murray.

Joseph was born in Trenton, NJ on November 13, 1948, son of the late James and Marie (Weir) Murray. He graduated from Cathedral HS in Trenton, served in the US Army as a decoding specialist during the Vietnam War stationed at the Panama Canal; went on to earn a B.S. in Physics from St. Joseph’s College, Philadelphia and his MBA from Rider College, Lawrenceville.
He was employed by Hamamatsu Corp., Bridgewater, NJ; his career spanned 32 years as a sales engineer and business development manager. He was one of the founding members of Our Lady of the Lakes Church, New Milford; was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He believed in giving back to the community and volunteered his time to Brookfield’s Relay for Life and the construction of Brookfield’s first playground at Town Hall.

A dedicated father and husband, he assisted in Boy Scout Troop 135 fundraising events, served as coach to his sons’ soccer and baseball teams. He enjoyed playing tennis and skiing with his family.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by 2 sons: Matthew and Robert Murray both of Brookfield; and several cousins. He was a kind, generous, family man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of the Lakes Church. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in the spring. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd., from 4:30 to 8:30.
