Local Crews Rescue Boaters on Candlewood Lake After Crash

The mishap occurred near Chicken Rock, the site of a fatal swimming accident last month.

SHERMAN, CT — Members of the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department rescued a vessel in distress with victims in the waters of Candlewood Lake on Thursday.

Crews got the call at 7:12 p.m., and a marine vessel was dispatched to the site. An ambulance and other apparatus were dispatched to the Sail Harbour area to establish a command center.

The SVFD rescue craft located the distressed vessel to the north of Green Island in Sherman Bay, arriving on the scene at 7:27 to find three occupants of one vessel that had been struck by another.

One boater was taken to the ambulance to be evaluated, and released. There were no more serious injuries.

Once all victims were escorted safely ashore, the scene was turned over to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Conservation Police and Candlewood Lake Authority for further investigation.
