Martin Francis Hartmann, 77, of Brookfield, Passed Away July 24

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 163 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield.

Martin Francis Hartmann, 77, of Brookfield, CT, passed away on July 24, 2015 at Danbury Hospital following an extended illness. He was the loving husband of Rosemary (Puma) Hartmann; together they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May.

Marty was born in Weehawken, N J on July 29, 1937 to the late Martin J. and Cecilia (Greene) Hartmann. He graduated from SUNY Agricultural and Technical Institute with an A.S. in Applied Science and continued his studies at Michigan State University’s College of Agriculture, graduating with a B.S. in food science.

When his health prevented him from pursuing a career in farming, Marty became a field engineer for PepsiCo, in Purchase, N.Y. He and Rosemary moved to Brookfield in 1969 and raised their family on the shores of Candlewood Lake. He maintained a love of farming and horticulture throughout his life. After leaving PepsiCo, Marty became an entrepreneur and local business owner.

A deeply spiritual man, he was a parishoner of St. Joseph Church, a Eucharistic minister, and proudly joined the ranks of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree in 2008.

In addition to his wife, Rosemary , Marty is survived by 3 daughters: Jennifer Clement and her husband, Douglas, and their children, Paul and Avery, of Morris; Susan Grammatico, and her husband, Nicholas, of New Milford; Christine Hartmann of Vista, CA ; a son: Martin, and his wife, Julie, and their children Andrew and Jack, of New Milford; a brother, Paul, and nephew, Christopher, of Ozone Park, NY; and his mother-in-law, Ann Puma of NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 30 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 163 Whisconier Rd, Brookfield. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29 from 5:00-7:00PM at the Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Rd.
