Not Just Your Average Thrift Shop
New thrift store to open in April will donate 50 percent of profits to charity.

There is a new shop coming to town and it’s not your average thrift shop. Kidz Korner Thrift Shop, located on 640 Federal Road, will be opening their doors April 2, 2011. Kidz Korner Thrift Shop will be selling anything appropriate for children of 0-12 years old, which includes but is not limited to clothes, apparel, toys, games, infant gear and room décor.
Owners Billie Jo Bernhardt and her husband Christopher are opening this family-run business with aspirations to help bring awareness and funding to non-profit organizations that benefit children and families within Litchfield and Fairfield County.
“We wanted to open a store that could strengthen our immediate community. We thought giving away 40 percent of our profit to the community’s charities and an additional 10 percent to a children’s cancer research charity would be a good start,” Billie Jo explained. “Our website www.kidzkornerthriftshop.com also allows charities to post their events and fundraising efforts for the community to see. We call it our ‘Charity Chat Board,’” she added.

Kidz Korner Thrift Shop will be an inexpensive place to shop and each sale helps the community. Local non-profit organizations have expressed excitement with Kidz Korner’s efforts.
“Kidz Korner will be a tremendous resource for the children and families we provide for,” said Nick Hoffman, director of Development for Family and Children’s Aid. “Having an affordable option that allows these families to ensure they have their most basic clothing needs available to them is a source of relief for families in crisis.”
