Obituary: Donald O. Morin, 62, Of Brookfield

BROOKFIELD, CT — Donald O. Morin, age 62 of Brookfield, passed away peacefully at Regional Hospice in Danbury on Aug. 29, 2023.

Don was born on Feb. 1, 1961 to Joyce (Berthiaume) Morin and the late Donald A. Morin. Don graduated from Valhalla High School where he was a quarterback for the high school football team. Don attended Pace University in Pleasantville, NY and graduated with a bachelors in Computer Science. In 1985, he started his long career in computer networking at IBM, recently retiring from AT&T. In 1986, he met the love of his life, Maureen. They married in 1992 in Brookfield, where they raised their only child.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Maureen (Kehoe) Morin, daughter Olivia and son-in-law John Struck. Don is also survived by his mother Joyce of Brookfield and brothers David (Cindy) also of Brookfield and Michael (Kelly Jurek) of Clearwater, NJ, sisters-in-law Lara and Dana, a total of 13 nieces and nephews, and 8 great nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, Dennis and Marcia Kehoe, brothers-in-law Ed Kehoe (Janet) and Mark Kehoe (April), all of North Carolina.

Don is predeceased by his father Donald A. Morin and beloved brother Mark A. Morin.

If Don wasn’t riding around town in any one of his favorite “toys” you could find him volunteering his services with his beloved German Shepherd (Wolfgang) on search and rescue missions hoping to bring home lost dogs. Other favorite pastimes included fishing, kayaking, trying out new restaurants, going to car shows, hanging out with close friends, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Don spent many years volunteering his time with the “Grad Dads” on the Grad Party Committee at Brookfield High School, where he played an integral part in helping to design and transform the front entrance of the high school for the annual senior class graduation party. He was known to drop everything to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and always put his family first. But his best and favorite role was being dad to his beautiful daughter, Olivia, his absolute pride and joy. His face would light up any time he spoke of her. He was a true girl dad through and through.

Don will be missed deeply. He was the “go-to” man for all — family and friends alike.

A funeral service will be held in the outside Memorial Garden at The Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road in Brookfield on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow from noon to 4 pm at The Candlewood Inn, 506 Candlewood Lake Road in Brookfield.
