He was a charter, organizing member, since 1977, of the Valley Presbyterian Church in Brookfield and a member of the Beaver Brook Volunteer Fire Department in Danbury, having served as Chief for 22 years and retiring in 2009.
A kind and gentle man with a quick wit, Gerry treasured time spent with friends, especially around the table sharing a meal. He loved cruising and looked forward to regaining mobility so that he could be back on the Queen Mary. He collected model trains and had a huge Lionel layout set up in his basement where he spent many hours tinkering with the stock which he loved showing off to visitors, young and young-at-heart. He enjoyed classic cars, going to cruise nights, inspecting the cars and chatting with fellow enthusiasts. Gerry had a special place in his heart for animals and was happy visiting with furry friends, especially fur-baby Slash, his favorite kitty.
