Obituary: Rose Marie (Mariano) Re, 94, of Brookfield

Rose was a giant of the faith, living it through her words, actions and the love that she gave to all who knew her.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Rose Marie (Mariano) Re, daughter of the late Francesco and Chiarina Mariano, was born October 17, 1924 in Buck Mountain, PA near Wilkes Barre.

She graduated from GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) High School.During the War Years she worked in Bridgeport, alongside her older sister Emily. After the war, she married Bernard Re from Luzerne, PA. In the early 1950s they settled in Danbury raising their five children.

She was a homemaker but also worked for Grolier Enterprises. In retirement, Rose and Bernie moved to New Hampshire and started a Bed & Breakfast, The Rose & The Bear. In later years they moved to New Milford to be near their daughter and sons and their growing families.

When Bernie passed in their 57th year of marriage, Rose moved to Delaware to spend more time with her son Tim, his wife Nancy, and their family. She returned to live with her daughter in Sandy Hook. There she spent many years cooking Thursday night family dinners and playing Scrabble, which was lovingly referred to as, "Words with Rose."

She was loved greatly and she will be greatly missed by her five children, Bernard, Jr (Joey), Carlo (Kathy), Carina Stefanko (Chris), Timothy (Nancy), Joseph (Michelle); her 19 cherished grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bernard Re, Sr. and siblings Grace, Emily, Anthony, Peter, Angelo, Joseph, David and Daniel, and grandson Ryan Re.

A longtime member of First Assembly of God Church, Rose's faith in God was unshakeable and her testimony undeniable. She was a giant of the faith, living it through her words, actions and the love that she gave to all who knew her.

To nourish our bodies, she left us with her love of cooking and baking, sharing her recipes from wedding cookies to traditional Italian dinners for other generations to enjoy.

Rose Marie Re passed just after midnight on November 13, 2018 at 94 years of age.Her funeral service will be held at First Assembly of God Church on Friday, November 16th.
