Obituary: William J. Russell, Jr., 89, of Brookfield

He was a recipient of the Navy Occupation Medal, China Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with 5 Stars.

BROOKFIELD, CT -- William J. Russell, Jr., 89, of Brookfield, husband of the late Audrey (Stephenson) Russell, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, June 2. He was born in Greenwich on October 22, 1928, son of the late William J. Sr., and Frances (Braunstetter) Russell.

Mr. Russell was a Veteran of Korean War, proudly serving with the United States Navy on the U.S.S Rowan. He was a recipient of the Navy Occupation Medal, China Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with 5 Stars.

He was a steamfitter who owned and operated Suburban Refrigeration in White Plains, NY, retiring after almost 50 years.

He will be sadly missed by his two children, Wm. Jeffery Russell and his wife, Margaret, and Susan Mills and her husband, Robert, all of Brookfield; his five grandchildren, Cassandra (Cesar) Jimenez, Benjamin (Lauren) Russell, Chelsea Russell, Alexander and Sarah Gibb; and one great grandchild, Clayson Jimenez. He is also survived by his sister, Anne Saunders.

He was predeceased by his son, Scott Russell; and his sister, Margaret Dowlin.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 11:30 am, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Brookfield.
