Police Identify Victim in Saturday Night's Brookfield Crash

Police have identified the motorist who was killed when his car ​crashed along Candlewood Lake Road Saturday night.​

BROOKFIELD, CT — Police have identified the motorist who was killed when his car crashed along Candlewood Lake Road Saturday night.

Nelson E. Zuniga, 27, of Waterbury died after his car struck a utility pole while traveling northbound near the entrance to Candlewood Birches, just after passing Echo Bay Marina. Police were notified of the accident around 10:45 p.m.

Zuniga was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital and pronounced dead at approximately 11:28 p.m.

An online campaign to raise money for Zuniga's family has been established through GoFundMe. The campaign, less than a day old, has attracted $4,530 in pledges.

"He was the kind of young man who would do anything for anyone. An amazing son, brother and friend. You couldn't ask for better," the GoFundMe organizer wrote.

The New Milford Police Department’s accident investigation team is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
