Reminder: 16th Annual Rake and Bake is Saturday, Nov. 14

Brookfielder Peter Brady created the event which will help more than 80 local families this year who need help caring for their homes.

Brookfielder Peter Brady, also known at “The Handy Dandy Handyman,” began an enormous community event that helps the elderly and others in and around Brookfield who need assistance caring for their lawns.

The Annual Rake & Bake event began with Brady and his family members helping two elderly parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church rake the leaves from their yards. Afterwards, the group rested and enjoyed a hotdog together and the Annual Rake & Bake was born.

Sixteen years later, over 1,000 area residents will gather at the Brookfield High School (BHS) gym to care for more than 80 properties in Brookfield and surrounding towns. Afterward, they will return to the gymnasium for food and fellowship.

Brady started the nonprofit Handy Dandy Handyman Ministries after retiring from Nestlé in 2000. Brandy and his team organize crews to take care of properties each fall and local vendors donate food for volunteers to enjoy afterwards.

The event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Volunteers meet at the BHS gum to be assigned to a group and find out where they will work.
