Restaurants to Donate Proceeds in Dex's Memory
Two local restaurants will give back to a family in need Wednesday and Sunday.

In memory of Dex Jay Smenyak, , two Brookfield restaurants will be donating a designated portion of their proceeds to the family to help cover funeral expenses.
on Federal Road will be donating a portion of every purchase Wednesday, November 16, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and next door in Shop Rite Plaza will be doing the same Sunday, November 20 from 5 p.m. to closing.
The Brookfield Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) organized the outreach in honor of Fern Smenyak, Dex’s mother, who has been a fixture of Brookfield’s youth leagues for a quarter-century.

“Anyone who has participated in Brookfield baseball/softball or the town's Park and Rec basketball program over the last 25 years no doubt knows Fern,” the BBSA said in an email announcing the dates. “Her commitment, passion and dedication in helping lead these programs — even after her own children outgrew them — have benefited hundreds of Brookfield boys and girls.”
After hearing about the family’s tragic loss, BBSA members met with the two restaurants and came up with a way to give back and help the family “with the cost of arrangements.”
