Roads Closed Due to Flooding, Including Federal South of White Turkey Ext.

Watch for barricades and flooded intersections Monday morning.

Almost four inches of rainfall overnight and an all-too-fast snowmelt has caused havoc on Brookfield’s roadways this morning, closing some major throughways due to flooding.

As of 6:45 a.m., four roads were shut down in Brookfield according to Highway Superintendent John Plummer, including Federal Road from the White Turkey intersection south to Danbury, portions of Candlewood Lake Road, Hollow Oak Lane and the intersection of Sand Cut Road and Vale Road.

Much of the flooding is linked to the overflowing Still River, which broke its banks early this morning.

Though he could not peg an approximate time when the roads would be opening, “If it stops raining it should drop pretty fast,” Plummer said, noting that the wind was starting to pick up, which will hopefully blow the storm away from the area. Once the rain stops the rivers will crest and begin to drop.

Officials caution to heed barricades and warning signs this morning to prevent accidents and vehicle damage in flooded areas.

“If you see barricades in the roadway, don’t go around them,” Plummer said, citing one resident whose car became stuck this morning in feet deep of water when she drove around a temporary barricade on Sand Cut Road.
