Services Scheduled for Man Killed on Route 25

The man was struck and killed while off-loading a piece of equipment from a trailer.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Services have been scheduled for the Danbury man who was struck by a car and killed while he was off-loading equipment on Route 25 last Friday.

The Brookfield police received a 911 call at approximately 9:17 a.m. Friday reporting a motor vehicle accicent involving a pedestrian in the area of 230 Whisconier Road and Route 25. A paving company was off-loading a piece of equipment from a trailer on Whisconier Road in the southbound lane when the accident occurred.

Linda Pendergast of Brookfield was traveling south on Route 25 in the area of Fairview Road when she moved into the northbound lane to avoid the trailer. When she did, she struck Harold Trafton, 58, who had been assisting with the off-load, police said in a release.

Trafton was transported to Danbury Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

According to Trafton's death notice, he worked with Poughkeepsie Concrete for many years, followed by Site Services of Southbury. The last 20 years, he spent working at F&D Fall Excavating. The past year, Trafton was employed with Elmer Lewis & Sons Excavating.

Trafton was a resident of the area since 1980 coming from Maine, and met his wife in 1982 at the Barden Corp. of Danbury. They were united in marriage in 1986 and later started a family in 1988 havin twins, Jessica and James.

In addition to his wife Patricia and twins, Trafton is survived by two brothers, a sister, a sister in law, two brothers in law, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
