The National Weather Service states that motorists traveling later tonight should exercise extra caution when driving.

The National Weather Service has issued a “Special Weather Statement” for northern Fairfield, northern New Haven, northern Middlesex, and northern New London Counties.
The advisory is for possible black ice tonight, especially after 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service writes,”...AREAS OF BLACK ICE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT...
COLD AIR EASING SOUTHWARD FROM CENTRAL NEW ENGLAND COULD ALLOW FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF BLACK ICE OVERNIGHT AS TEMPERATURES FALL TO FREEZING OR BELOW. ELEVATED ROADWAYS AND UNTREATED SURFACES WILL BE THE MOST VULNERABLE. MOTORISTS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION IF TRAVELING TONIGHT...PARTICULARLY AFTER 8 PM.”
On the plus side, we’re still looking good for New Year’s Eve with temps near 50 and sunshine and at midnight temps will be in the low 30s, but no rain or snow.
