As many of you know, Jerry Murphy, former First Selectman of Brookfield, passed away on Friday, August 21st after a brief illness. This was very sad news to hear. Jerry was a true leader in our town, having been on a number of boards as well as serving for four years as First Selectman. Jerry’s first concern in anything he did was consider what was best for our town. He never put politics before doing what was right. He was a true gentleman and was always courteous and kind.
Here is the note that I sent to Susan Murphy last Friday:

“The thoughts of everyone here at town hall are with you at this sad time. Jerry was a wonderful man and spent many hours stopping by and helping me when I first took over the job he himself had done so ably in the past. His assistance was given to me out of the kindness of his heart and his true love for our town which he wanted to see grow and flourish. He was a true mentor to me and helped everyone who needed assistance. I will miss him very much and I am so very grateful for all of his help and his friendship. His worth to our beautiful town cannot be expressed enough.”
