Dr. Matthew Keefe of Canton Valley Dental Helps Organize 33rd Golf Classic

David Regan of Canton & Ryan Mains of West Hartford also help organize the October 3rd event at Blue Fox Run. Chris Herren will present.

The Annual WIDE OPEN GOLF CLASSIC will hold its 33rd Golf Tournament on Friday, October 3rd at Blue Fox Run Golf Club in Avon.

Dr. Matthew Keefe of Canton Valley Dental along with David Regan of Canton and Ryan Mains of West Hartford will organize the tournament once again. This year will mark the 33rd year of this event which has raised more than $225,000 for the local High Schools’ (Canton, Avon, Lewis S. Mills and Northwestern Regional 7) substance abuse programs and has also supported research for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Oncology Department.

After rave reviews from last year’s presentation at Lewis S. Mills and Northwestern Regional 7, the Wide Open Committee has invited Chris Herren, a former guard for the Boston Celtics and sought after motivational speaker, to speak again this year to students at the local High Schools. He will be presenting his experiences with drugs and alcohol and the eventual loss of his basketball career. The Wide Open committee will be scheduling an additional evening presentation for parents to hear Herren’s amazing story. The date and time will be announced.

In addition to an anti-drug and alcohol presentation for the local schools, 2014’s Wide Open Golf Tournament plans to make a donation to a very worthwhile charity named Smile Train. Smile Train provides free cleft repair surgeries to children all around the world born with cleft palates and who cannot afford the repair. Millions of children around the world with unrepaired clefts have difficulty eating, breathing and speaking. Smile Train has provided more than one million free cleft repair surgeries since 1999. We would like to get as many people as we can involved in this event to help show support for our community and this very worthwhile charity. For more information you can visit www.smiletrain.org. Let’s make this year our best year ever!

If you would like to participate in the tournament, please contact Jill at Canton Valley Dental at 860-693-0887. If you cannot play in the tournament you may still sponsor a hole or donate a raffle prize. Please let us know if you can participate in any way.
