5 Things To Know In Canton: Collinsville Historic District Hearing, Selectmen Meet, Road Work And More

CANTON, CT — Canton's Collinsville Historic District Commission holds a public hearing and hears an update on the Collins Company redevelopment, the Board of Selectmen meets Wednesday, and road and water main work continues around town.
Here are five things to know about life around Canton this week:
1. Collinsville Historic Panel Hears Porch, Shutter Requests
When: Tuesday, Oct. 13, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Canton Community Center, Room E, 40 Dyer Ave.
What to know: The Collinsville Historic District Commission will hold a public hearing on a porch repair at 51 High St. and wood shutters at 6 Center St., according to the agenda. The commission will also work on finalizing an inventory of structures in the historic district, consider a more structured process for approving "repair in kind" work without a public hearing and get updates on the High Street Station building and the Collins Company redevelopment.

2. Board Of Selectmen Meets
When: Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 p.m.
Where: Canton Community Center, Room B, 40 Dyer Ave.
What to know: The Board of Selectmen is scheduled to meet, according to the town calendar. No agenda had been posted as of Thursday, Oct. 8.

3. Road Work On Hanson, Barbourtown, Triangle Roads
When: Weekdays through the end of October, about 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Barbourtown Road, Canton
What to know: Crews are working on Hanson Road between Bunker Hill and Barbourtown roads, Barbourtown Road between Wright Road and Greystone, and Triangle Road between Barbourtown and Wright roads through the end of October, weather permitting, according to the town. Drivers should expect delays, closures or detours; emergency vehicles and school buses can pass. Questions go to Public Works at 860-693-7863.

4. Torrington Avenue Water Main Work Continues
When: Through the fall; completion expected the last week of November
Where: Torrington Avenue, Canton
What to know: Connecticut Water Co.'s replacement of the water main on Torrington Avenue continues through the fall, with completion expected the last week of November, according to the town. Questions go to Public Works at 860-693-7855.

5. Emergency Fuel Bank Help Available
When: Applications by appointment
Where: Canton Social & Community Services, Canton Community Center, 40 Dyer Ave.
What to know: The Canton Emergency Fuel Bank provides last-resort heating help for residents who have used up their own funds or other programs, covering oil, gas, propane, wood pellets and wood, according to the town. Residents can apply through Canton Social & Community Services at 860-693-5811. The next Generation Power CT (formerly Operation Fuel) application window is Dec. 1-15.
