NEW HARTFORD, CT — One person was killed in a motor vehicle crash Friday afternoon, fire officials said.
At 1:43 p.m. the New Hartford Fire Department, alongside New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance and mutual aid agencies, responded to a serious motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle on Route 44.
Upon arrival, emergency crews determined that the driver of the passenger vehicle was trapped and required extrication, fire officials said.
Firefighters and EMS personnel worked to remove the occupant from the vehicle.
"Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by New Hartford EMS and HHC Northwest Paramedics Medic 3," fire officials said in a news release. "The Connecticut State Police assumed control of the scene and are conducting the active investigation into the cause of the crash."
The New Hartford Fire Department said the South End Volunteer Fire Department, Pleasant Valley Vol. Fire Department, and Canton CT Fire and EMS Department all assisted during the incident.
Route 44 remained closed for several hours while emergency crews operated on the scene and state police conducted their investigation. The roadway was reopened at approximately 6 PM.
