CANTON, CT — The Canton Fire and EMS Department announced it has received grant funding from the Canton Community Health Fund to support new firefighter safety and emergency response equipment in Canton, Connecticut.
Department officials said the funding will help pay for several projects aimed at improving firefighter accountability, rescue operations, and emergency preparedness.
One of the largest projects funded through the grant is the addition of a Pack Tracker system for the department’s new self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
The system allows incident commanders to monitor firefighters operating in hazardous conditions by tracking firefighter status, emergency distress alerts, and air management during fireground operations.
The grant also funded the purchase of a new ventilation saw equipped with a bullet chain designed for roof ventilation during structure fires.
Fire officials said the equipment will improve operational efficiency and help crews perform ventilation operations more effectively during emergencies.
Additional funding was awarded for new water rescue rope equipment to strengthen river rescue capabilities along the Farmington River.
Department officials said the upgrades will improve preparedness, responder safety and rescue operations for residents and visitors using the river.
In a statement, the department thanked the Canton Community Health Fund for its continued partnership and support of public safety initiatives.
“Their investment in public safety helps ensure our department remains equipped, prepared, and ready to serve the community,” the department said.
