The reading is one of several local events being organized across Connecticut to mark the nation's semiquincentennial and reflect on the historic document adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

The event is open to the public and offers residents an opportunity to gather and hear the Declaration of Independence read aloud in a community setting.

The Canton America 250 Committee has been coordinating local programs throughout the anniversary year to celebrate the town's connections to the nation's founding and encourage civic engagement through educational and historical events.

The Canton Public Library is partnering with the committee to host the July 8 program.
