CANTON, CT — Canton First Selectman Kevin Witkos is inviting residents with grant writing, research, and project management experience to join a new volunteer initiative aimed at helping Canton secure additional state and federal funding.
In a message posted July 16, Witkos announced the creation of the Grant Writing Guild, a volunteer group that will work with town departments on an as-needed basis to identify grant opportunities and strengthen applications for community projects.
"Our town is fortunate to be home to talented, generous people who volunteer their time in countless ways," Witkos wrote.
According to the announcement, the town is seeking residents with experience in grant writing, research, editing, project management, accounting, education, nonprofit work and related fields.
Town staff members with expertise in their departments are also expected to participate.
The Grant Writing Guild will assist departments by researching state and federal grant opportunities, helping prepare competitive grant applications and sharing knowledge that could improve the town's ability to obtain outside funding.
Witkos said the initiative is intended to bring together residents with professional experience and community members interested in helping the town pursue projects that benefit Canton.
"Together, we can turn ideas into opportunities, opportunities into grants, and grants into lasting improvements for our community," Witkos wrote.
