Canton Parent Group Seeks Families For Programs, Plans Open Houses

CANTON, CT — Canton Parents As Teachers is enrolling local families for the 2026-27 school year, offering early learning groups, developmental screenings and individualized visits for families with young children.

The parent-child program, known as CPAT, serves Canton residents with children from the prenatal period through kindergarten.

The program is designed to provide parents and caregivers with information, resources, and support related to childhood development.

CPAT will hold two open houses in September for families interested in its Early Learning Groups.

They are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 39 Dyer Ave.

The Early Learning Groups give children opportunities to play and learn with other children while parents can meet other families and connect with a certified parent educator.

Activities include art and other age-appropriate experiences, along with information about children's development and ideas families can use at home.

Regular Early Learning Groups are offered Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. at Canton Intermediate School. The cost is $100 for the year or $50 per session per family.

CPAT also offers developmental screenings for parents who have questions about their child's progress.

If a potential concern is identified, the program can help families connect with resources and learn about possible next steps.

One-on-one visits are also available in families' homes or the CPAT classroom.

During the visits, parent educators provide information about childhood development and offer activities parents and children can do together.

CPAT said its approach is based on recognizing parents and caregivers as the experts on their own children, with educators serving as a source of additional information and support.
