CANTON, CT — Collinsville Scout Troop 77 is inviting residents and prospective Scouts to help clean up the Farmington River this weekend.
The troop will participate in the annual Farmington River Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon, according to an announcement shared by Bike Walk Canton.
Participants will meet at Collinsville Canoe & Kayak, 41 Bridge St., before heading out for the cleanup.
The event is open to community members and provides prospective scouts and their families an opportunity to meet Troop 77 members and leaders while participating in a community service project.
Following the cleanup, a community barbecue open to all will be held at Memorial Field, near the town garage and boat ramp.
Organizers said information about joining Troop 77 will also be available during the event.
The Collinsville troop traces its history to 1917 and is encouraging prospective new Scouts in particular to participate Saturday.
Those interested can simply attend the cleanup, according to the announcement.
