CANTON, CT — The Canton Public Library will host two free suicide prevention training sessions next week aimed at teaching teens and adults how to recognize warning signs and connect someone experiencing a crisis with help.
The library and Farmington Valley Health District are offering Question, Persuade and Refer, or QPR, training as part of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
Separate sessions will be held for teenagers and adults:
Both sessions will be held at Canton Public Library, 40 Dyer Ave.
The 90-minute training focuses on three steps — question, persuade, and refer — intended to help participants recognize warning signs of a suicide crisis, offer support, and connect someone with appropriate help.
Participants who complete the program will receive a certificate of training.
The workshops are provided free of charge by the Farmington Valley Health District and Canton Public Library, but advance registration is required.
Registration is available through the Upcoming Programs section of the Canton Public Library's website. More information is available by calling the library at 860-693-5800.
