CANTON, CT — Canton is seeking residents interested in helping oversee the town's finances to fill a vacancy on the Board of Finance.
The town is accepting applications for the open seat through noon Friday, Oct. 9. The person appointed will serve until the next town election, according to the town's announcement.
The Canton Board of Finance serves as Canton's budget-making authority and has a role in municipal financial oversight, long-range planning, and development of the annual town budget.
The town's budget process includes Board of Finance review of proposed municipal and school spending, a public hearing, and development of a recommended budget before the annual referendum.
According to the town, applicants must be Canton residents and registered Canton voters.
Because of the political-party requirements contained in Section 6.04.H of the Canton Town Charter, applicants for this vacancy must be registered Democrats or unaffiliated voters.
Qualified candidates may be invited to participate in a public interview before an appointment is made, the town said.
The Canton Board of Finance is composed of elected members with staggered terms.
Town records have historically identified members by party affiliation as part of the board's official roster.
People interested in the position should submit a current resume and brief statement of interest to by the Oct. 9 deadline.
