Canton Families in need of heating assistance should note the application dates for winter heating assistance programs.

The Town of Canton Senior and Social Services Department is reminding residents about the state’s heating assistance program for low income households, according to the Hartford Courant.

Senior and Social Services Director Claire Cote said her staff will begin to accept applications on Oct. 2. Income guidelines have not been set yet by the state but anyone who received assistance last winter is encouraged to apply. The application process can take up to two weeks.

Households who do not qualify for the state program can seek help through the Canton Emergency Fuel Bank, an independent heating assistance organization. They can be reached at (860) 693-5811 ext. 165.
