Canton Bicyclist Killed in Collision With Pickup Truck

The accident happened on Route 44 in New Hartford Tuesday evening.

NEW HARTFORD, CT — A Canton resident was killed Tuesday night when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a pickup truck, state police said.

Around 7:30 p.m., Gordon Keller, 42, of Cherry Brook Road was riding a Quintano Roo bicycle eastbound on Route 44 when he was struck by a westbound Chevrolet Silverado attempting to make a left turn onto Route 219, police said.

Keller was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m., according to police.

The pickup truck operator, Zachary Pillarella, 21, of Barkhamsted, was not injured, police said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Rafael Figueiral at 860-626-1820.
