Canton To Celebrate Earth Day Friday By Planting A Tree

Town hosting a special event at a local park.

CANTON, CT — The Town of Canton Friday is celebrating Earth Day a day early by planting a special tree at a local park.

The Canton Department of Public Works and the Canton Parks & Recreation Department are celebrating Earth Day on Friday, April 21, at 11 a.m. at Mills Pond Park, located at 14 E. Hill Road, Canton.

There, municipal officials are expected to plant a Jefferson American Elm Tree at the park, directly adjacent to a new playground there.

The public is invited to attend the event.

Earth Day is actually on Saturday, April 22.

"It is a day held to demonstrate and promote environmental awareness and calls for the protection of our planet," wrote the Town of Canton in a recent announcement.

"Today, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 193 countries each year."
