Help Canton Restaurant Help The Needy Christmas Day

CANTON, CT — A Canton eatery is spending its Christmas Day doing good for the area community, as it is distributing special holiday meals for those in need of a bit more cheer.

And to pull off that benevolent task, it needs the community's help.

Dish 'n Dat, located at 144 Albany Turnpike in Canton, is hosting folks from several area towns, with those in need requested to RSVP with their town's social services department.

The old-fashioned style diner is hoping to feed 300-400 people in need in the area.

"Dish 'n Dat will be serving a full, hot holiday meal for each person, along with toys for the kids, gift cards and non-perishable food items," reads a flyer advertising the event.

Those qualified can pick up their meals, gift cards, toys and non-perishable foot between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25.

"The elderly, veterans and families in need are welcome," reads an announcement. "Please contact your local social services department with a meal count for your family so we know how many to expect."

In addition to Dish 'n Dat, the event is also being sponsored by Shop Rite supermarkets.

Meanwhile, Dish 'n Dat said it is still collecting donations of gift cards, food and money to help the event happen.

Thursday, it offered a plea for more aid on its Facebook page, saying it is falling short on help.
