Update: Hunter Falls 25 Feet in Canton, Sustained Injuries

Talk about a busy night for firefighters between battling a large fire and finding a hurt hunter

A 50-year-old Plainville man was taken to the hospital after falling from a hunting tree stand in Canton early this morning.

The incident was reported to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection shortly after 6:30 a.m., said Dennis Schain, spokesman.

The man was hunting on private property off of Spaulding Road and fell about 25 feet while climbing up to the stand. He broke his leg, sustained back injuries and had cuts on his head, but is in stable condition at St. Francis Hospital.

The man had a valid hunting license and written permission from the landowner to be on the property and was not charged with any hunting-related violations.

Canton firefighters had their hands full early Thursday between battling a large fire and assisting with the rescue.
