Canton Fishing Derby/Food Drive Returns Later This Month
The event for children will take place on Saturday, April 18, at a prominent Canton park's pond.
CANTON, CT — The 4th annual Fishing Derby and Food Drive will take place Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the pond at Memorial Field, organizers announced.
The event is hosted by the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department and the Canton Volunteer Fire Co., and is open to children who register in advance.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and closes at noon at Memorial Field, which is located at 91 Powder Mill Road, Canton.

Parents and guardians are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to support the Canton Food Bank.
Organizers said the pond will be stocked with trout, with a limit of three trout per child. All trout caught must be kept, while other species may be released. Any trout not retained will be donated to the food bank.

Participants must reel in their own fish, though adults may assist with casting and netting. Live bait and lures are permitted.
Prizes will be awarded for selected fish categories to be announced on the day of the event. All registered participants will receive a free hot dog, chips, and a drink.
